View photos from the “2009 Walk for the Animals” Other Community Events Hospital staff has manned a booth at the annual walks with great pet giveaways and family fun over the years, and we’ve had as much fun doing it as our visitors have had. See photos from the 2010 AWLA Walk for the Animalsīallston Animal Hospital has been a proud sponsor of the two annual fundraising events of the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, the “Walk for the Animals” in the spring and “Catsino Night” in the winter, since 2006. Read the following news stories detailing how the Ballston team helped give “puppy mill dogs” a second chance and gave comfort and life to a blind kitten that might have otherwise been euthanized, receiving a 2007 Annual Service Award. Some case studies we have taken on include: On occasion, an animal requires extensive medical care, surgery, and hospital care. Our veterinarians volunteer their time on the clock, as needed, at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. Staff members at Ballston also work with the following community organizations: Golden Retriever Rescue, Education, and Training – GRREAT the Arlington Food Assistance Center and the Paws Program of the Doorways for Women and Families. We offer a “Free First Visit” to animals adopted through the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, and to Arlington County residents who adopt from the Washington, DC, Animal Humane Society, and the Washington, DC, Animal Shelter, operated by the Washington Humane Society. Members of the community have shown their appreciation for our work as well, and we were proud to be the recipient of the 20 ABBIE award for the “Best Place To Care For Your Pet” in Arlington County, Virginia In addition, Washingtonian Magazine and its readers voted Ballston Animal Hospital one of the “Best Vets” for the Washington, DC, area in its 2008 poll. For emergencies while the Animal Services Center is closed, please call 911. It is often used as a measure of the shelter's effectiveness and its commitment to animal. A high live release rate is a positive indicator of a shelter's success in finding homes for pets and reducing euthanasia rates. Foster caregiver input is welcomed and will always be taken into consideration however, AWLA staff members are the primary decision makers regarding the health and well-being of our animals.Ballston Animal Hospital values and appreciates the surrounding community and actively participates in a variety of ways to assist area shelters and charities. This includes pets that are adopted, returned to their owners, or transferred to other shelters or rescue organizations. Understand that your foster animal is under the custody of AWLA.( DA2PP, FVRCP, Bordetella, etc as appropriate) Have proof of up-to-date vaccinations for all resident animals.Follow instructions from AWLA staff regarding medical and behavioral needs.Be able to provide or arrange a transportation plan for your foster animal(s) to and from AWLA.Have regular access to email and respond promptly to email and phone communication.If you rent your home, you must have permission from the property manager/landlord to house animals.You will receive a copy of the contract each time you foster. Willingness to abide by all policies and procedures in our foster manual and in the foster care contract you sign when you pick up your foster animal.Foster caregivers must be 18 years of age or older.
